    Setup Notes:

    Activities 3, 6, 7, 8 and 10: The lights in the room need to be dimmed and the blinds lowered for these activities to be effective.

    Activity 5: NOTE FROM HARLOW (Dec.2 08) to technologists: I have not tested this! The idea is that the oil is clear and the index of refraction of the pyrex rod is the same as the oil so it should disappear..

    (as of 2018) we place 2 pyrex test tubes in a jar of canola oil and two in a beaker of water.  The test tubes in each vessel are filled also, one with canola oil and one with water.

    Activity 7: The board with the 5 mm diameter hole in it should be mountable on the track, held vertically, similar to the Viewing Screen. The hole should be at the same height as the the light-hole in the Light Source, or about 13.4 cm above the top surface of the aluminum track.

    Activity 8: There needs to be a distant light source in the room, for example, a bare light bulb at both the front and back of the room. Every table should be able to get a line of sight to the bulb from near their table which is at least 4 m away. Note that for this activity they hold the lens and screen so the 2.2 m track does not have to be pointed at the distant light source!

    Activities 8 and 10: The feet on the tracks should be set to 5 cm and 150 cm.Note when ordering from PASCO the SE-7582 is a set of 6 identical f/2 lenses, and the SE-7583 is a set of 6 identical f/4 lenses. Only one of each lens is needed for each setup.
